It’s that time of the year when the cold winter months have cooled the water down and the Sheepshead have started to move into shallower waters. February and March are perfect months to target these incredibly tasty, hard fighting fish. When all the other fish are too cold to come out and eat, the Sheepshead are just getting started. These fish thrive in colder waters, and love eating Shrimp and small crabs. Once you get into a school of these fish it’s game on.
Spring 2025 Fishing Report
It’s been a long cold winter needless to say, but now it’s drawing to an end and the fishing is about to get crazy. Usually, by mid February the Redfish and Trout start making their way out of the rivers and backcountry creeks onto the shallow water grass flats where there is plenty of bait and warmer water. By March and April it’s in full swing as the Redfish and Trout bite is usually the best. Nearshore and offshore our Sheepshead and Mangrove Snapper bite kicks in, and to me, it doesn’t get any better than that.
